There is no power in the majority of this building.  All of the light in these long corridors is the result of windows and skylights that are part of the Kirkbride architectural plan of TALA’s main building.
For more about these unique and amazing designs and what makes Kirkbride buildings so special, you may want to check out kirkbridebuildings.com
TALA is listed in their directory under one of its more recent names, the Weston State Hospital.  Though the tourism associated with TALA may draw some controversy at times, I’m extremely grateful that the property was purchased by a family who intends to restore it.  This building is breathtaking and beautiful.  Practically a castle in size, structure, and detail, they simply don’t make them like this anymore.  However, with so many other Kirkbride buildings having been demolished for other developments, protecting them and maintaining them is an enormous undertaking. I really can’t fault the family at all for trying to turn TALA into a bit of an income property, given the challenges they’re up against.
Though it hadn’t been vacant for long before it was purchased, TALA is in need of a lot of repairs and in some ways seems like a race against time.  The hundreds of windows and skylights may bathe the halls in light, but they also allowed the elements to brutalize the building while it stood empty.  Even now while it is open to tours and ghost hunts, there are areas that are not structurally stable enough for foot traffic.  Repairing a building like this costs a LOT of money… and that doesn’t even address the several other structures on the property that are in similar or worse states of disrepair.
To protect and restore TALA is expensive and exhausting.  Knowing that there’s people who thought it was worth it to pay millions of dollars to keep TALA as a historical site and not gut her for a shopping mall?  More power to them.  I make a point of spending as much money as I can in TALA and the surrounding Weston when we visit here each summer.  They deserve it.

“I had a lot of fun doing it, then enjoy! This is a lil’ peanut of a huge huge huge project for my exam thesis, The Steampunk Hegemony. The title should tell everything by itself. What the past would look like if the future had happened sooner? And all these kinda famous things.”

I WROTE A COLLEGE PAPER ON WHY THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER.

GOT AN A.

no regrets.

Every single song in this movie gives me chills. “Deliver Us” especially.

One of my friends is a vocalist and had never seen this movie, so I made her sit in the middle of the living room and watch it.

God, Ofra Haza’s voice is so haunting and gorgeous in this film. RIP.

SUCH AN AWESOME MOVIE.
